The five step dado process.
STEP 1: Template your blade’s kerf.
STEP 2: Set Leg 2 to cut one shoulder, accounting for the kerf.
STEP 3: Set Leg 3 to match your inlay material.
STEP 4: Cut both outside shoulders, registering off Leg 1 and Leg 3.
STEP 5: Clear out remaining material from the center.
Cutting dados requires careful setup, precise measuring, and often extensive testing. The Dado Stop was born out of frustration with this process – there had to be a better way.
